US, China to cut emissions

China declared on Thursday that it would reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by 40-45 % below 2005 levels by the year 2020. The US offered to cut its GHG emissions to roughly 4 % below 1990 levels by the year 2020. This is bound to step up pressure on India and other emerging economies to relax their stand in the climate change talks.
